Tasmania …

Lighthouse sunset-1

With my eldest brother living in Tasmania for over 20 years, we thought it was high time for a visit. We flew into Hobart this morning and have driven to the very top of the island and are spending the night in the lighthouse keeper’s cottage at Low Head.

A stunning sunset …. captured by all.

Up close & personal …

I recently bought a macro lens and I think we are going to be firm friends. Loving the ‘nowhere to hide’ capacity of this lens.

Model material …

Went into Sydney last night to watch Missy Higgins perform under the Big Top on the closing night of the Spectrum Now festival. Such a strong voice and great range of vocals, combined with her relaxed, self-effacing humour made it feel like a very intimate concert by an old friend.

This shot is of my husband (6ft 3), facing off against one of the billboard models as we walked past all the closed department stores on the way to the concert.

Weekend …

AUS_6659

Although we have officially left Summer, the blue skies and hot weather show no signs of leaving. Our neighbour, Rowan, making the most of the conditions with his second surf of the day.

Vices …

AUS_6655

For a group of suburban mothers, our vices are pretty tame. Once every few months, we meet up for a card night.

Not that it ever has much to do with actually playing cards … the focus is more on champagne, gossip, cheese and chocolate. At about 11pm someone remembers to bring out the pack of cards and we have all forgotten the rules since last time we met. I think our average is about 2 rounds in 5 hours.

Jet lag …

Wonderful to have my husband fly in today after being in the US for nearly 3 weeks. A quick swim in the ocean pool kept the jet lag at bay for a while, but he is certainly struggling this afternoon.

Under the sprinkler …

AUS_6607

Sydney has just had it’s 33rd day over 26 degrees celscius and very little rain. All the grass is dead and the gardens are looking pretty weary, so even the hardy agaves enjoyed a bit of time under the sprinkler this afternoon.

Unreliable assistant …

AUS_6582

I’ve been fortunate in acquiring a photographer’s assistant and he was flat out today helping me edit the photo shoots from the weekend.

Considering he spends most of his days napping, it’s more about the quality of work then the quantity. At least he is cheap.

Alexia …

AUS_6558

Photographed a christening today and was delighted to be able to capture the very small moments of deep meaning and tradition that permeate such an occasion. Watching Alexia’s grandmother present a chain belonging to her husband’s mother, and the continuity of family this signifies.

And who can resist photographing such a delightful girl in her best dress?

Oli …

Had great fun in the pool trying to get some underwater shots with Oli this morning. Obviously these things take a lot of practice and this was only our first attempt. Wasn’t going to let such a gorgeous model leave before grabbing a few shots on dry land.

Taj …

AUS_5482-2

The Australian Open of Surfing has taken over Manly this week and the beach is filled with the young, fit and tanned. Great to see the organisers recognise and promote local talent, with Taj Ralph opening the music stage this afternoon.

Taj went to school with my children and has been a prolific music writer and talented performer from the age of 9. Barefoot and comfortable on stage today, he has definitely hit his stride.

A link to some of Taj’s music.

Underwater love …

DSC03250

Playing around this afternoon in the pool with the underwater camera. Managed to get about 60 dodgy shots and about 3 litres of water up my nose. Think I’ll stick to dry land.
