500 blips …

500 blipPSD

I started posting photos online as a 365 day challenge, but upon reaching the 1 year mark, it had become an enjoyable daily routine that I didn’t want to give away. So, I’m still here.

Along the way I’ve moved countries, learnt a lot, met some wonderful people, been inspired by the journals of others, and have realised that photography is such a powerful medium and something that gives me a great deal of pleasure.

I’ll be taking a break from posting photos over the next month as I will be working full time and won’t have the time to properly commit. However, at the end of June I’m heading back to New York for a month so will resume posting on a daily basis then.

Thanks for all the support, encouragement and laughs along the way. See you in NY!

Hooked …

Who would have thought you could find a blip on the back of a flat bed truck in an industrial area? Blip does train you to look in unexpected places.

Back to school …

_AUS6417

Our local primary school has been such a large part of our lives for so long. I worked there for 5 years and both children started as young kindergarten students in shiny shoes and oversized hats. It has wonderful community involvement and support, and a passionate and talented staff. A great combination that has a positive influence on all the students.

Spent the day back at school taking photographs for them to update the school website. So many eager faces all wanting to be photographed, it was hard to manage a candid shot!

Shells …

Always happy to wander around the edge of beaches and explore the rockpools. A whole other intricate life happening just below the water. Makes for good abstract art as well.

First project …

_AUS5459

Over the years my husband and son have worked away on some ‘man projects’ in the garage. The process usually starts with an ambitious request from my son, then they sketch out a more achievable design, then are involved in ‘secret men’s business’ involving timber and saws and long discussions. To date, no limbs have been lost.

C.A.T…

_AUS5374

Spent a very productive day organising my study and setting up accounts for my business. Although my filing cabinet is now a neatly labelled, colour coded masterpiece of organisation, I thought it would make a pretty dry blip subject. It gives me a great sense of satisfaction and calm, but might bore the rest of you to tears.

Luckily the cat is ready to step in for an emergency blip.

Influential …

_AUS5345

I’ve been so lucky that my husband has been close to these two women throughout his life …. his mother and sister. The man he is, the husband he is and the father he is, have all been greatly influenced by them. They are strong, intelligent, caring and opinionated women that put a high value on the importance of family.

… and his mother is an awesome cook, and this has come through strong in the genes.

Vivid …

_AUS5173-Edit

Great to see Sydney shine tonight for the Vivid Light Festival, and wonderful to experience it amongst a gaggle of blippers …   Walking Wombat (and CCN)Beckett Jensphotos and Gitama’s World.

Then spent the rest of the night with my family viewing the light installations around The Rocks and Darling Harbour. I must say that blippers are a lot more understanding then teenagers when it comes to waiting around for you to set up a tripod and take long exposures. Think I’ll ditch the teenagers next year.

Rules …

_AUS4332

In our house we have always maintained one very strict rule … at 5pm on a Friday a bottle of champagne gets opened. I’m always a stickler for the rules.

No wonder the birds love these flowers … they are pretty cool.

Big Apple …

_AUS4201-Edit

I’ve had a wonderful day indulging in travel porn …. looking for an apartment to rent in NY when I visit in July. Feel like a voyeur inspecting peoples bedrooms and bathrooms.

My daughter is heading back to nerd camp (actually a maths camp) in the US and I have selflessly volunteered to travel with her. It will mean that I will have 3 weeks by myself while she is at camp. I’ve just booked a hiking trip in Vermont and will spend the rest of the time in NY. Will be lovely to catch up with friends and wander the streets again with my camera.

As I said, a truly selfless act!
